Privacy Policy — Dropwatch

Overview

Dropwatch is a browser extension that tracks the prices of products you explicitly choose to watch, and notifies you when their price drops. Your privacy is fundamental to this extension’s design.

Data Collection

We do not collect, transmit, or share any data. All data is stored locally in your browser via chrome.storage.local.

What is stored locally

For each product you choose to track:

• Product URL and canonical URL (with tracking params stripped)
• Product name and image URL
• Current price, initial price when tracking began, and a price history (capped at 200 points per product)
• Currency, store hostname, store display name
• Your drop threshold (default 10%, per-product editable)
• Timestamps (added, last checked)

Network activity

The extension does make network requests, but ONLY to the URLs you explicitly track. Every ~6 hours, the background service worker fetches the tracked product URLs to check the current price. These requests use your browser’s existing cookies for that store, so the price returned matches what you would see in a normal browser session. The extension makes no other outbound requests — no analytics, no telemetry, no error reporting.

Permissions

• storage — save your tracked products locally
• alarms — schedule periodic price checks
• notifications — show OS-level price-drop alerts
• activeTab — read product data from the page you are currently on, only when you open the popup
• scripting — inject a small data-extraction function into the active tab when you open the popup
• optional host permissions — granted by you per-store when you click “Track this” for the first time on that site; required so background fetches can include your session cookies

Data retention

Data is stored until you delete it. You can delete individual products, clear all data, or uninstall the extension (which wipes everything).
